Digital products have shaped our lives like few other innovations. Their near-infinite scalability, enabled by the low cost of reproduction, offers enormous revenue potential for organizations that successfully create and deliver value to their customers.
I have been building products for more than ten years and have experienced more setbacks, failures, and successes than I can count. In recent years, the way successful products are conceived, built, operated, and improved has changed considerably. Agile ways of working have become standard in many organizations. Cross-functional teams are now at the center of value creation in most product companies, and data-driven decision-making has become increasingly widespread. Despite all these new methods, processes, and tools, one fact remains:
Creating successful products is hard. And despite everyone’s best efforts, most products fail.
At their core, successful products must create value both for their users and for the organizations behind them. Achieving this requires a clear understanding of user needs, thoughtful execution, and continuous learning.
